A return to drilling

The continued spell of unsettled weather came to an end last week and we were able to return to drilling peas on the silts north of Boston. Going was good. Excellent seed beds and plenty of moisture.

The overhead conditions allowed us to complete the Savannah and a trial variety, Idalgo, by Sunday. It was then a case of rest for 48hrs before starting the Amalfi in the Frampton area today.

Up to now we have done little rolling after the drill but, with the winds we have had moisture is beginning to escape from the top 2 to 3 inches. The rolls have been greased and may well be in action this week.

The early drilled Prelado and Anubis continue to bask in the sun and are romping on. Style has and is emerging on the Heath in sequence, so I have to be happy! Although, a more unsettled pattern of weather is being forecast for the beginning of April, 🀞it's not for long! 34% of our peas are in the ground compared to 15% this time last year.
