Vining Pea and Bean Conference 2024
We were delighted to hold our biennial vining pea and bean conference this year, with Boston United’s football ground playing host to delegates from as far and wide as Scotland, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany.
On the night before the conference, we held a dinner which 67 people attended, which was a great way of breaking the ice and getting the conference going. The conference itself included items on the promotional activity of Yes Peas! as well as updates on various elements of research delivered by PGRO.
We also discussed mental health, with Lincolnshire Rural Support Network (LRSN) talking about what they were doing to help here in Lincolnshire and further afield, and Rupert Lowe MP joined us from his office via Teams for a discussion and debate about the challenges that we all face, which he understands due to his farming background.

The feedback we received over the next week or so was very gratifying, as attendees told us they had enjoyed both the content of the conference and the opportunity to network with others in the pea industry, where you can feel quite isolated in your own bubble sometimes.
We all share the same issues and problems, be that varieties that we choose, plant health, and operationally as well. This includes health and safety, a subject on which we have a very good dialogue between all groups.
The conference was a great success and we look forward to welcoming people back to Boston United in November 2026.
