Our mission to get peas their own emoji
For years, it has annoyed us that there isn’t a pea emoji. There’s one for aubergine, potatoes, pineapples, you name it - but no pea emoji.
So in 2018, we challenged Hatch Communications - our PR company who are responsible for running the ‘Yes Peas!’ campaign - to go about changing that.
We wanted to kick up a bit of a fuss, so we sent somebody down to Downing Street dressed in a pea emoji to rattle the drums and garner public support. We had a ‘pea-tition’ (one of many pea puns we deployed during the campaign) and a lot of people signed it.
It finally came to fruition this year as the Unicode Consortium approved our pea emoji. We use it a lot now, not just online but on our viners as well. It was a long process to get it approved, with a lot of hoops to jump through, so credit to Hatch for persevering and getting peas the emoji recognition they deserve.
