The return of winter

It feels as if we have reverted back to winter this week. Although it has remained dry the bitter east wind, which has also brought some frosts, has really slowed things down.

We are still drilling but at a much reduced pace. The Geneva around Spalding and Scott Willoughby has gone well. Moisture is still readily available but each day we are going slightly deeper. Seed beds are good but in the true tradition of "moaning" farmers, a little bit of rain wouldn't go amiss!

The very early drilled Prelado and Anubis appear to have withstood the frosts and are at reproductive stage. A nice warm spell now would see flowers before the end of the month. The Savannah and Amalfi are growing but seem to be reluctant to emerge fully into the cooler temperatures. 2500 acres are now in the ground, some 50%.
