Fen Peas appearance on ITV’s This Morning
We have been singing the praises of peas on national television after an American study suggested that they shouldn’t count as part of the five-a-day campaign promoted by the UK government.
The study, conducted at Harvard University, claimed that peas might not provide the nutrition and benefits that have long been advertised, compared to some other vegetables.
Following this, we received a phone call from ITV’s this morning, and the very next day, our managing director Stephen Francis appeared live on air with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.
The show did a great job of setting the scene: the set was coloured green, the presenters were enthusing about their love of peas, and Piers Morgan, who had been on discussing the Covid-19 jab, gave us the perfect topical segue, quipping: “Peas are like the COVID-19 jab: they should be mandatory.”
Stephen was joined on the show by nutritionist and food writer Dale Pinnock, and the two explained the nutritional benefits of peas, their role in a healthy diet, and how people could cook them and use them as an ingredient in meals.
The feature seemed to capture the public imagination. We received plenty of positive comments over the next few days, praising the feature for presenting a serious message about the health benefits of peas in a fun and informative way.
