That was the week that...............turned around the pea crop as well as many other crops! It has been a quite brutal drilling season with the land drying out and turning to granite in places. Although it was possible to get the peas into moisture, there would not have been enough to carry the crop through to fulfill its potential. That has all changed with welcome rain soaking through the soil profile. We have all but finished drilling. About a couple of days work left when conditions allow. The early Anubis are now putting pod out and the Boston and Style behind it are starting to flower in sequence. With harvest potentially under a month away thoughts turn to preparing all the kit and ensure that we set off with all that we need for our Tour of Lincolnshire which will be Fen Peas' 50th harvest!
